Continuing support for climate policy research
Mistra to continue funding the CLIPORE Research Programme
The aim of Mistra´s Climate Policy Research Programme (CLIPORE) is to encourage social science research aimed at producing scientific data to advance international cooperation on combating climate change. CLIPORE´s primary target group is the Swedish government and other international decision-makers that are engaged in active and constructive negotiations with a view to addressing climate change challenges. CLIPORE plays a unique role since it is one of the few research programmes that has a major element of international research cooperation - between researchers from Sweden, Norway, the USA and India.
The Board of Mistra has now decided to prolong the programme after its initial build-up phase. The programme will conduct research on emissions trading and other climate change mechanisms. Six research posts have been created for work on frameworks for international cooperation and agreements and on the identification of appropriate tools for implementing climate policy. A Policy Forum has also been set up to provide a space for dialogue between scientists and practicians on efforts to address climate change.
- International evaluations of CLIPORE indicate that the programme has been successful during the build-up phase and that it really is creating tools for international negotiation forums. Apart from that, the programme is building new Swedish research capacity in this area, says Marie Uhrwing, Programme Director at Mistra.
The Board approved a grant of over SEK 62 million for the second phase of CLIPORE, i.e. the period from1 July 2007 to 31 December 2010. The Board declared, moreover, that there will be a long-term commitment to the programme with a view to enhancing Sweden´s research capacity.
