Entire portfolio now sustainable
As from 1 April this year, all of Mistra´s assets are invested on the basis of sustainability criteria. The goal of meeting such criteria across the entire portfolio by 2007 has thus been met.
‘We now feel fairly confident that sustainable investments actually provide a better financial return,´ says Märtha Josefsson, who chairs Mistra´s Committee for Asset Management. In the two years Mistra has entrusted its capital to managers who apply sustainability criteria, all the investments in question have outperformed the relevant benchmarks.
A case in point is the Swedish firm Robur, one of Mistra´s asset managers, whose investments based on such criteria have done better than those that are not.
The same is true of State Street, which manages a European portfolio. A global portfolio looked after by Generation Investment Management, which has the most stringent requirements in terms of sustainability, has also done very well indeed.
‘As a result, we´re now dropping a couple of managers that don´t apply sustainability criteria,´ says Ms Josefsson. ‘And in fact they´re the ones that have failed to match their benchmarks.´
