Dr. Nilsson develops methods for safety assessment of non-conventional microorganisms. The aim is to set up reliable biological model systems methods for estimating the risk of negative effects of the microorganisms on human health, e.g. detection of toxic metabolites and assessment of infection potential. The test systems developed should be able to identify unwanted microbial characteristics and ensure that microorganisms used for biotechnological applications are safe to use.
Dr. Nilsson received her PhD from the Karolinska institute, Sweden in 2005. During her time as a PhD student she worked at the Department of Bacteriology at the Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control with projects concerning bacterial evolution and adaptation, with special focus on antibiotic resistance development. From 2005-2007 she worked at the department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology, Uppsala university, Swede |
