Dr. Melin ´s primary work, within the DOM programme, is dealing with safety aspects of using biocontrol Trichoderma strains. The primary objective is to design specific molecular markers for the two Trichoderma species, T. atroviride and T. polysporum used in the formulated products sold by BINAB Bio-Innovation AB. These markers will then be used for identification and quantification of the strains in filed studies. Other research interests are microbial ecology in general, formulation of microorganisms, fungal physiology and genetics, and food mycology.
After graduating in Molecular Biology at Uppsala University in 1997, Petter Melin started as a PhD student at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. His project was dealing with moleular aspects of fungal-bacterial interactions. After defending his PhD in Microbiology in 2002 he worked within the DOM programme with formulation aspects of the biocontrol yeast Pichia anomala. 2006 he left the department for a post-doc at the University of Nottingham returning to the programme in 2007. |
