Swedish and British experiences in Danish magazine
Claus Hedegaard Sørensen, Tomas Bergström, Henrik Gudmunsson and Jamil Khan (all from IMPACT) has published an article in the Danish magazine "Dansk Vejtidsskrift". In the article they compare the organisation of bus transport in Manchester and Stockholm.
In both cities market mechanisms and so-called NPM reforms have been introduced during the last 15 - 20 years. However, the reforms are quite different, and they compose quite different conditions for achieving a modal shift in favour of public bus transport and for greening vehicles and fuels in the busses. Hence, more political steering as in the Stockholm case seems to provide the best conditions. However, inManchesterqualitative bus partnerships are prevalent, and Stockholm might learn from these experiences.
