Impact - IMplementation Paths for ACTion towards sustainable mobility
Impact´s main ambition is to develop models and tools for the support of sustainability oriented decision-making and implementation in the transport sector. Transport is known to be the source of many environmental problems and there is no lack of suggestions for policies, instruments and measures that can improve the situation. The problem is that few of the good intended solutions are put into practice. Impact claims that this is due to the lack of knowledge of implementation processes in relationship to the multi-level and multi-actor governance system of which such policies are a part. Impact has chosen to concentrate its ambitions on implementation processes and use this as a common focal point. However, Impact keeps a broad approach motivated by the complexity of sustainable mobility.

Impact´s research design builds on the collected wisdom of various disciplines brought in through the use of a selection of common cases. The programme is structured in research themes that point to areas of tension that need to be understood in respect to implementation. The use of common cases studied from various research themes will let Impact draw conclusions about how strategies can be improved to better correspond with intentions of sustainable mobility. Impact´s objective is to take the insights generated in the research themes to develop tools and models that will support sustainability-oriented decision making (with transport implications), increase implementation efficiency; disseminate the developed tools, market them and implement them in practice.
