Include - Integration of ecological and cultural dimensions in transport infrastructure Today´s transport system is not environmentally sustainable. Increasing mobility and its associated changes in transport facilities entail substantial ecological, social and cultural impacts that are not considered adequately in present infrastructure management. Include contributes to the development and implementation of strategies, methods and tools for achieving an environmentally sustainable transport system that is well integrated with the natural and cultural properties in the environment and allows creating new landscape values that harmonize with national and international environmental quality objectives.
Include has been initiated through cooperation among researchers, practitioners and several Swedish authorities. The programme contains five component projects focusing on the landscape impact of infrastructure, on planning processes and the communication of knowledge and tools. Include activities cover annual international workshops and several synthesis projects that combine results from the workshops and five component projects. This is done in close cooperation with experts from different European countries. User involvement, networking and target orientation are key words in the programme. Include is funded by Mistra, The Swedish Road Administration, the National Rail Administration, the National heritage board, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, and the Board of Fisheries.
