SEK 54 million for environmental communication research

Mistra has announced funding for a new research programme to further develop understanding of how knowledge and action are connected. Sophisticated interdisciplinary cooperation among research groups in various disciplines is expected. The research must also be based on cooperation with stakeholders of various kinds.

Mistra’s mission is to support research and development in the environmental sector that is important for society’s development and can be turned into decisions and action. In this assignment, there is significant interest in creating greater understanding of how knowledge and action are connected.

‘More knowledge and facts don’t automatically lead to better decisions. We need to know more about this complex process, which is why we’ve come up with this uniquely large initiative on research about communication around environmental and sustainability issues,’ says Åke Iverfeldt, Mistra’s CEO.

Many of the measures that need to be implemented for the climate, environment and sustainability require communication of various kinds. Communication on environmental issues is in itself an important form of action and often a prerequisite for solutions to be accepted.

The research programme will be interdisciplinary and, compared with what have been seen as conventional studies of (environmental) communication, ground-breaking. It is intended to be analytically innovative and inspire new forms of communication practice. The research will also be based on collaboration with stakeholders of various kinds.

The programme’s expected budget totals SEK 60 million over four years. Mistra’s financial contribution will not exceed 90 per cent of the total budget: a maximum of SEK 54 million.

Applications must be submitted to Mistra by Wednesday 6 March 2019 at 4 pm.
