Workshop on European water protection
Mistra and other research funders held a workshop at Skansen on 18 December 2019.
In Horizon Europe, the forthcoming European research and innovation framework programme, the European Commission has identified five ‘mission areas’. The Commission’s aim is, in these areas, to create a broad public commitment to meet some major global challenges. One mission area is ‘Healthy oceans, seas, coastal and inland waters’.
Mistra and two fellow funders, Formas (a Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning) and Vinnova (Sweden’s innovation agency), held a joint workshop on water at Skansen, Stockholm, on 18 December. There were some 20 attendees with a range of water-related expertise. Darko Manakovski from the environmental organisation Rare (rare.org), one of the 15 members appointed to the Board by the European Commission, had been invited to speak about the missions of the programme.
